On Sunday, July 27th, Portland Mountain Rescue was called to assist with an injured hiker who had taken a fall off the old Timberline Trail near the Yocum Ridge Trail junction. Two men where backpacking on the trail when one of the hikers had slipped while crossing a washed-out portion of the trail and tumbled approximately 160 feet down the slope before coming to rest in a small stream with a dislocated shoulder and an injured ankle. His companion was able to descend to him and attempt to stabilize his condition before heading for help.

The call out came around 2:00 am by Clackamas County Sheriffs Office. PMR, along with AMR Reach and Treat and Pacific Northwest SAR sent in teams of rescuers to the accident site. The AMR RAT team was lowered down to the fallen hiker for treatment while the remaining rescuers set up a raise/lower rope system to evacuate the hiker onto a litter. The subject was then wheeled out to the Ramona Falls Trailhead and taken to the hospital. All teams were out of the field by 2:00 pm.

This is the second time in a week that PMR had to respond to the approximately same location. This section of the trail is posted and flagged for hazardous conditions. Please approach with extreme caution when hiking along this area.
